Review: Moon.Me Side-Snapping AIO

Description: The Moon.Me side-snapping AIO consists of a waterproof TPU outer, bamboo interior lining and a snap-in 4-layer bamboo insert, backed with TPU. The insert is shaped and forms interior double gussets (click through to see a photo).  This diaper has three rows of rise snaps on the front to adjust the sizing and fastens at the hips using two rows of snaps on each stretchy side-tab. It is a side-snapping waist closure instead of the more typical front-snapping.

First impressions: I love the look of this diaper - from the trim cut, the side snaps and stretchy tabs to the cute prints. From the outside it looks quite similar to the Grovia AIO, but the inside differs quite a bit. The bamboo interior is lovely and soft, though I suspect with use and line drying it will stiffen a bit over time. The diaper seems well-made, with neat seams, snaps etc. [Rating: 4.5/5]

Ease of use: To use these, simply snap in the insert and put on your baby. If you have not used side-snapping diapers before, these will have a slight learning curve. I always start by fastening the hip snap first and then the waist snap, that makes it easiest for me to put on. Once you are used to the side-snapping fastening though these are easy to put on and the stretchy tabs help with that too. When you take the diaper off, simply put the whole thing in your diaper pail. I tend to unsnap the insert when it comes out of the wash and before hanging up as it speeds up drying time. Speaking about drying time, it's about average for an AIO and bearing in mind it does consist of natural fibres which typically take longer to dry.  [Rating: 4/5]

Fit: I'm a big fan of the smooth front that side-snapping diapers offer and I love a diaper with a narrow crotch, so it's no surprise that I love the fit of this one on J. Now I'll be honest and say the fit is not quite as lovely as the fit we get from the similarly cut Grovia AIO, but it's a close second in terms of overall look and trimness. I do feel like this one would be a better fit on chubbier babies/toddlers vs Grovia as it seems to have a little more leg room (to illustrate J is on smallest rise in this one and middle rise with Grovia) and the leg elastics are also more gentle vs those of Grovia. He has quite a bit of room to grow on the waist too, with two sets of snaps showing on the side tabs.  [Rating: 4.5/5]

Value for money: I find these to be very reasonably priced in comparison to other AIOS locally available. A nice low-mid budget option and I do feel the price is fair in terms of what you get too (fabrics used etc).  [Rating: 4/5]

Performance: I find this diaper to be fairly absorbent, more so than a standard-issue pocket, but heavy wetters will definitely require extra absorbency. In terms of trimness vs absorbency, I feel like the diaper performs quite well for how trim it is. The fact that the insert is backed with PUL gives a little added peace of mind too. I would say it would be sufficient as-is for light to medium wetters during the day. What's nice about the PUL backed insert is that you can reuse the shell if just the insert is wet and replace with any other snap-in insert (eg Buttons) So in that way it can function like an AI2 too and stretch your stash a little bit - great for winter! You can also buy extra snap-in inserts from Mulberry Moon. I feel like the way the insert is shaped with the gussets it will contain runny ebf poop very well, however as J is not ebf, I was not able to test this to verify my theory. [Rating: 4/5]

Overall impression: This is a lovely new mid-range AIO offering from Mulberry Moon - it's trim, well-priced and with a thoughtful design which gives you the flexibility to use it as an AI2 if you have a light wetter. If you enjoy the fit of the Grovia AIO, but it's a little out of your price range, this is a great option to try.
